Helpful Tips on Sanatana Dharma / Hindu Principles - 57
Shastipoorthi and Shastiapthapoorthi should be done in Thirukadaiyur.
Firstly Devotees completing 59 years and starting sixty have to perform Shastipoorthi Shanthi (Simple Pooja) here. And again when Devotees completing sixty years and starting sixties should perform Shastiapthapoorthi here.
The Temple occupies a very vast area of 11 acres, with five Prakarams, imposing temple towers and large and spacious Mandapams.
For Shastiabdapoorthi (This term is derived from Sanskrit which means Shasti - Sixty; abda - years; poorthi - completion) book the central (madhya) mandapam in advance and should perform it in this mandapam.
  • Rahu :

Helpful Tips on Sanatana Dharma / Hindu Principles - 57
The devas and asuras churned the Paarkadal (Sea of milk) to obtain amirtham that would free them from death, keeping them alive for ever.
When the amirtham emerged, Lord Vishnu in the guise of Mohini was distributing the amirtham only to the devas. He was worried that the evil deeds of the asuras will increase multifold if they consumed amirtham. Realizing this, one of the asuraas (Rahu) with the help of the asura Guru Sukrachariyar, took the form of a deva and consumed the nectar. Suryan and Cha dran who noticed this, complained to Lord Narayana. In anger, Lord Narayana hit the asura on the head with the spoon in his hand. The head was cut off and fell on the ground.
But because the asura had consumed amirtham, his head and body continued to live. The body of a snake got attached to the head to become Rahu Bhagavan. Rahu prayed to Lord Vishnu (Narayan) and got the position of a Sayagraham.
